The 43rd Sports Day and Annual Prize Distribution Function of St. Xavier’s H.S.S., Mapusa was held on the 19th of December 2017 at 2:00 pm on St. Xavier’s H.S.S. ground. It began with the Guard of Honour followed by the hoisting of the flag. The Drills and the March Past of 21 contingents promoted and highlighted the theme ‘In Harmony With Nature’.
The Chief Guest for our Sports Day was Mr. Shrinivas Dempo – Chairman of Dempo Group of Companies and Rev. Fr. Arnaldo Pinho – Asst. to the Secretary of the D.S.E. was our Guest of Honour. The achievements of the students in academics as well as in sports have raised the banner of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School higher than ever. To honour these students, prizes were awarded to them for their excellence.
It is customary that every student be a part of this unique event. It was ensured that all 1700 students of this Institution – the largest Institution in Goa had an opportunity to display their extra-curricular and co-curricular talents in the form of creative drills and March Past.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Shrinivas Dempo, appreciated the efforts of the staff and students for the Sports Day and also imparted his wisdom and encouragement to keep the flame of Sports glowing among the students. He also released our Annual School Magazine ‘Luminescence’. The Guest of Honour, Rev. Fr. Arnaldo Pinho, the Asst. to the Secretary of the D.S.E., applauded the efforts and dedication of the staff and students for the grand success of the Sports Day and expressed his joy that out Institution has been growing in all spheres.
Our Sports Day was witnessed by over 5000 people including parents, well wishers and benefactors. The opening act emphasized the elements of nature namely fire, air, water and earth along with the unveiling of ‘X
avi’ – mascot of the day. The next drill – ‘Counting Colours in the Rainbow’ – showcased the interplay of beautiful colours of the rainbow in the form of a parachute. After which was the ‘Fluttering Wings and Fragrant Flowers’ displaying
how butterflies flutter around beautiful flowers. Other events included ‘Reasons for Seasons’ namely summer, autumn and winter spreading magic in the air with pyramids. It was followed by the students creating awareness on the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste. The ‘Celestial Extravaganza’ depicted the cosmic play where one could see planets orbiting around the sun.
Our Sports Day also included events like the Relay for boys and girls, Shot put enhancing the sportive spirit in our students. A special Relay for the member schools of Mapusa II Super School Complex was organized where 07 schools participated in the same.
In Sports Mast. Xavier Dias from 12th Science M and Ms. Tabassum Kamdod of 12th Commerce C were adjudged Best Sportsman and Sportswoman respectively for their outstanding performance in Sports.
An added attraction was the crowning of Master & Miss Xavier’s. Mast. Carlos Souza and Miss Alyssa Gomes won the same respectively. Our ex-student Mr. Prathamesh Maulingkar who was conferred with the title of ‘Mr. India’ was also present on our sports day.
The Function ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Brian Duarte, Vice-Principal of the Vocational Stream.
