Installation of the Social Wings

The largest higher secondary school amongst the diocesan institutions, St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa held its investiture ceremony of its four social wings namely, the Student’s Council, the Youth Red Cross (Y.R.C), the Science Association, and the National Service Scheme (N.S.S) on the 4th of July, 2018 at 12p.m in the Ark Hall.

The President of the Diocesan Society of Education and the Administrator of St. Xavier’s College, Rev. Fr. Zeferino D’Souza was the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest, escorted by Principal Dr. Elvis Gonsalves and Vice – Principals, Ms. Magret Dias and Mr. Brian Duarte were given a guard of honour by two N.C.C cadets.

The programme began with a solemn prayer service on the theme “Be a rainbow and add beauty to the world” wherein the beauty and importance of the colours of the rainbow VIBGYOR was beautifully illustrated and correlated to student leaders.

The Chief Guest was then escorted by the Principal and Vice – Principals to the dais and they were joined by the convenors of the four social wings.

The convenor of the Student – Teacher Welfare Committee Ms. Lena Gonsalves introduced the Chief Guest while Ms. Maria Auxilia welcomed him with a record book. The traditional lamp was then lit by all the dignitaries.

In his address, Principal Dr. Elvis Gonsalves spoke about the qualities of a leader: of being loyal,a visionary, courageous, leading by example and knowing and showing the way and encouraged the students of being good leaders.

Ms. Lens Gonsalves, convenor of the Student – Teacher Welfare Committee read her report; Ms. Unicea Fernandes, teacher member of Y.R.C unit read the report of the YRC unit; Ms. Shruti Naik ex – convenor of the Science Association read the report of the Science Association and Ms. Belinda Velho, convenor of the N.S.S unit read her report of activities for the academic year 2017 – 2018.

The Principal, Dr. Elvis Gonsalves administered the oath of office to the student council executive body ie. the general secretary, the cultural secretary, the sports secretary, the discipline monitor and the cleanliness monitor and all their assistants. The pledge was then taken by the class representatives of all 30 classes.

The Vice – Principal of the General Stream Ms. Magret Dias administered the oath of office to the executive members of the Y.R.C unit and the Science Association. The members of each association took their respective pledge followed by the singing of their respective hymns / anthems.

The Vice – Principal of the Vocational Stream, Mr. Brian Duarte, administered the oath of office to the executive body of the N.S.S unit. The student volunteers took the pledge and sang the NSS song.

The Chief Guest decorated every executive body member with their respective badge of duty.

For the first time besides the class representatives and the executive body, there are committees of students as part of the council to facilitate in the working of the council.

The general secretary Ms. Maria Dancho addressed the students and expressed her gratitude in being elected as general secretary.

In his address, the Chief Guest Rev. Fr, Zeferino D’Souza advised the students that although times will be tough, one must always be courageous. Although some students are born leaders, some become leaders. He advised the students to persevere and to chose the longest activities because victory is in the journey and not just at the end.

The Cultural Secretary, Ms. Vidhi proposed the vote of thanks which was followed by the singing of the School Anthem.

The function ended at 2pm.
